Wine Wars is a side quest in the Blood and Wine DLC. Suggested level: 37 and above. Head to the auction place. On his travels, Geralt will come across NPCs wanting help. Although random side quests provide only XP or money, some have rich stories. One such is the “Wine Wars” quest. Here, accept or refuse Liam’s and Matilda’s offers, or accept both and negotiate rewards.
The first quest ends without rewards. Advance Wine Wars: Coronata and Wine Wars: Vermentino by resolving vineyard problems without turning in the quest. Loot the cellar and reach a depressed section with a dirt floor, where an Archespore awaits. This beast is stronger than others fought.
If helping Matilda first, you’re given 5 tasks to complete. Examine bodies, one has a letter learning of a plot to sabotage vineyards. This opens investigating Coronata for answers, required for Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina.
I chose helping Liam and Matilda but not clearing all, so Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina appeared and completed. After clearing them, got Wine Wars: Belgaard to see Liam and Matilda. After cutscene, waited 3 days but nothing happened. Can’t talk to them or finish quest.
Certain missions can be tough without help. Players learn Liam and Matilda want the vineyard but neither can buy it until vineyard problems dealt with.
Upon completing “Wine Wars: The Deus In The Machina”, Liam and Matilda discover the actual saboteur and plan to form a consortium for Belgaard Vineyard. Before they can, unresolved issues in Wine Wars: Vermentino and Coronata must be addressed. Return after completing these tasks to receive rewards.
Five more tasks come after completing the first five for Liam or Matilda when deciding to help resolve Belgaard Vineyard. Here you encounter warriors who have infested the vineyard.
This begins upon speaking to Liam and Matilda after completing Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina if not finishing vineyard restoration tasks. If completed, this quest won’t appear.
Arriving at the auction site, Geralt finds Liam, Matilda and the Manager. Agreeing to help either Liam or Matilda, the corresponding quest becomes available.
From the start, Matilda and Liam accused one another of problems at vineyards. Geralt suspected more and was right. Notes suggest intentionally planting archespores at both estates. You can agree to help for optional objectives.
Talk to Liam and Matilda at the fast travel signpost, triggering Wine Wars: Vermentino and Coronata. In Vermentino, at Objective 3/5, read the note.
The Coronata’s monster nest task is a short ride northeast. To no one’s surprise, it is an archespore nest. After completing Wine Wars: The Deus In The Machina, Liam and Matilda discover the actual saboteur. They plan to form a consortium for Belgaard Vineyard if unresolved issues in Wine Wars: Vermentino and Coronata are addressed.
Geralt can help one or both vineyard owners, beginning Wine Wars: Coronata and Wine Wars: Vermentino quests. Complete Wine Wars: The Deus In The Machina before turning in vineyard quests. Liam and Matilda will enter a partnership to run Belgaard together. Their tasks combine into Wine Wars: Consorting.
You can inform the Ducal Clerk that vineyard problems are solved and help Liam win the auction. Or manage joint control for Liam and Matilda over Belgaard vineyard. They will have a special reward – new wine named in Geralt’s honor: Geralt of Rivia, White Wolf or Butcher of Blaviken.
