Through delivery of lines, actors can convey the intentions and motivations of their characters. Actors use variations in tone, volume, and rhythm to emphasize certain words and phrases, enabling the audience to grasp the underlying emotions of a scene. By examining how characters interact, react, and respond to one another, the audience gains insight into their relationships and evolving dynamics.
Connecting with the Audience Through Nonverbal Communication
Actors connect with their audience through body language, voice coaching, and posture. By understanding and using acting terms, a common language is created that guides an actor’s performance. Take a break from focusing on yourself and listen to actors with great diction. As you get comfortable with the speech, try to say the speech directly on top of the speaker.
Methods of Delivering Speech
There are four speech delivery methods: impromptu, extemporaneous, manuscript, and memorized. Each method has strengths and weaknesses. Extemporaneous delivery, guided by notes rather than a full script, is commonly focused on, allowing for eye contact. Other methods also have their uses in delivering speeches that can educate or inspire audiences effectively.
