Access (Axel Asher) is owned by both DC Comics and Marvel Comics. He made his first appearance in DC Versus Marvel # (March 1996), a special crossover between the two companies.
A teenager living in New York City, Axel Asher encountered a strange old homeless man in an alley, who revealed what seemed to be a cardboard box but was in fact a portal between universes. The vagrant stated that Axel was next in line to bear the powers and responsibilities of being The Access.
A normal night of patrol in Gotham takes a turn when a stranger makes his way into the Batcave. With his powers unstable, he unwittingly takes them there. The Bats are forced to navigate this marvelous new world in order to find each other and save the fates of both universes before it’s too late.
Six months later, a restless Axel Asher visited Ming at her family’s Greenwich Village restaurant when he started experiencing violent flashbacks of the recent war between the cosmic entities that embodied the DC and Marvel multiverses. If the fissure lasted too long, the multiverses could start merging again, and the Amalgam Multiverse could return forever.
During DC vs Marvel, Access used shards of each universe hidden inside Batman and Captain America to separate and restore both universes.
