Who Owns Moonlight Skates? Moonlight Roller’s Rise in Skate Culture

Nationwide — 25-year old Adrienne Cooper, the African American founder of Moonlight Roller, has quickly cemented her company’s status in skate culture as the new “it” brand. Since the launch of its highly anticipated roller skate line in May 2020, the company has achieved over $3 million in sales. The roller skates (called Moon Boots) have been purchased in 49 states and across the world. Moonlight Roller has also garnered attention for its contribution to skate culture: a mobile skate rental counter to transform any space into a pop-up skating rink.

"Rollerblading qualifies as cardio, and low-impact cardio at that,” Pedemonte says. “Anyone new to working out, getting back into the swing of things, or with pre-existing muscle or joint issues can benefit from the easier movements allowed by rollerblading while still improving cardiovascular health and muscle endurance." Moreover, roller skating can burn up to 600 calories per hour!

Interest in rollerskating is increasing. The Golden Skate rink in the Bay Area, expected to close in a few months to make way for a proposed housing development, signifies a shift.

Moonlight Roller Skates offer aesthetically pleasing designs in vibrant colors that stand out. However, some users have reported issues like uncomfortable toe boxes for wider feet. Additionally, the hybrid wheels may not deliver the same quality as other brands. There have also been concerns about lower quality plates. Some believe the price may not match the quality of wheels and plates.

When it comes to dance skating, brands like Riedell, Jackson, Suregrip Boardwalk, and Moxi stand out. For beginners, find a well-fitting skate with adjustable stops and metal plates without worrying too much about brands.
