Humans have many needs throughout the day and throughout our lives. The companies They try to meet those needs by delivering the good or service they offer, so each of them will specialize in what they do best.
Maslow's pyramid is a motivational theory that tries to find out what drives human behavior to take certain actions. For this, the human needs that will be supplied by the companies are taken as a reference. The aim is to see human behavior in a more visual and practical way according to the individual's needs.
The concept was developed by Abraham Maslow (1908-1970), in his work "A Theory of Human Motivation". Today, this concept is widely used in the area of marketing, where the adaptation of the product to the client, how to cover their needs and desires, has been fundamental.
Levels of Maslow's Pyramid
In general, the pyramid is divided into 5 categories of needs. It is said that to go from the lowest level to the level just above, the human being must meet this basic need. Once these most elementary desires are overcome, higher and more complex needs and desires develop.
The 5 levels or categories of Maslow's Pyramid are (from lowest to highest):
- Physiological: eating, breathing, having a home, resting quietly, etc. They are basic necessities necessary to live.
- Security: physical, housing, work, family security and having good health. Order and security are sought in the life of the individual.
- Social: friendship, effect, family, intimacy, co-workers, etc. The need to belong to one or more social groups that the individual deems appropriate is taken into account.
- Need for esteem or recognition: to be successful, recognition, respect, trust, etc. Needs for personal recognition and success in life.
- Personal self-realization. It is achieved after having exceeded the other levels with high expectations and a personal success is achieved.
